Today is the day where Universitas Islam Indonesia welcomed us to their university and as participants of the 7th Batch of SEA Teacher Project which was held at the Administration Building of Universitas Islam Indonesia. The university van picked us up around 10:20 am at Ersyada Club House (the girl’s dormitory and our official meeting place). We arrived at the Administration Building around 10:30 am.
The speech of the Rector of UII, Fathul Wahid, PhD. was encouraging. He said that as participants of this project, we are here for the cross-cultural understanding of the rich cultures existing at the ASEAN Region. Moreover, we must understand that ASEAN has unity in diversity. That speech made me feels fortunate being selected as participant of this project having the rare opportunity to teach abroad and break cultural barriers.

The speech was later followed by the orientation facilitated by Sir Herman Felani, about our privileges given to us by UII as SEA Teacher and our responsibilities while being participants of the this project. The orientation was fun and I found Sir Herman as a funny yet well-composed man. In this orientation, I had also given a chance to introduce myself and get to know the other 11 participants coming from the Philippines and Thailand. Furthermore, I met all of our Indonesian buddies. They are all friendly and they warmly welcomed us. It is so good to know that our buddies were alumni of SEA TEACHER Project. They shared their experiences as SEA TEACHERS and I found it interesting. Overall, UII has definitely has a special place in my heart, and our buddies!
