Friday, February 1

I have mentioned in my previous post that SMANCA has a Batik Painting Center where students create their own Batik that they can sell. Therefore, SMANCA now let us to create our own Batik as their token of appreciation for having us in their school. We could create whatever design we want! It was so excited because I have my own Batik as my souvenir when I go back to the Philippines.

So, after our classes, around 11:00 in the morning, I, our two buddies (Ida and Fakhri) and my co-SEA TEACHERS went to the Batik Painting Center. We were accompanied by Ibu Petri.

In the Batik Painting Center, we met the art teacher of SMANCA (sorry I forgot her name). She was the one who is in-charge of the painting center and will be our teacher for Batik making.

She first gave us a white cloth and told us to draw using a pencil the design we want for our Batik. As I science major, I decided to draw colonies of Amoeba. Hehehehehe.

Then, she heat the candle and gave us a cantik. Cantik is a tool which looks like a pencil, which is where the candle is being put and used it to draw the design.

It took us about 30 minutes to draw our designs. I am not good at arts so even though I didn't achieve the design that I want, I still continue because what matters now is that, this is the only Batik design you can find in Indonesia! It's limited edition! Wo would dare to use amoeba as inspiration of their Batik? Just me! HAHAHA

Then after that, we put coloring to our designs.

Putting colors to my Batik design.

After that, we let it dry under the sun for about 10 minutes. Then, water glass, a special kind of wax is being applied again to my colored cloth. This will served as a coating to the cloth in order for the colors not to fade when the cloth is boiled. Then, we let it dry again for another 10 minutes.

This is the moment that I am waiting for! I will now see my Batik! Watch the video below how the finish product turned out! Don't expect, I am not good in arts! I'm just good in Biology HAHAHAHA.

The art teacher said that she can make our Batik as tote bag for FREE. So, I said yes. She said that I will get the tote Bag on Monday, on our Closing Ceremony in SMANCA. Time flies so fast but at least, before we leave, SMANCA gave us a token which has a special places in our hearts.
