Academic Support System
SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan has the following facilities and resources that support the academic growth of the students to help them accelerate their learning progress, catch up with their peers, meet learning standards, or generally succeed in school: Faculty Room, Library, Biology Laboratory, Physics Laboratory, Students Centers, School Canteen, School Basketball Court, School Field and Batik Painting Center.
Notable among these facilities which I found useful to the students is their Batik Painting Center. The school teaches the students to do and design their own Batik clothes, bags and wood products that the students can sell. Somehow, the school teaches the students the value of Entrepreneurship that teaches them important skills that is useful when they get into college.

Furthermore, this school follows the Go Green Advocacy. This is very notable to the appearance of the school and arrangement of the classroom. The school is full of trees and plants. Each section of the class has their own garden that they maintain. The classroom has no electric fans. They just open the windows for ventilation in order to reduce consumption to the electricity. The school also practice the 3Rs strictly and Waste Segregation. During Friday, they have this program called, Jum’at Bersih which both the teachers and the students allot 30 minutes to clean the school altogether. They have specific areas to clean for 30 minutes. I found the implementation of the program outstanding since the school focuses not just for the academic development of the students but more importantly the holistic development of their students.

Teaching System
I have given a chance to teach Grade 10 and 11 for the subject Biology. The academic week starts on Monday and ends on Friday. Biology is taught in the program called MIPA that means Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam or Matematika dan Ilmu Alam. This program is a combination of science that studies mathematics and natural sciences (biology, physics, chemistry, etc.). This term is often used in a faculty at a university but in the 2013 Curriculum this term is abbreviated to MIA namely Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
For the MIPA Program, Biology is taught for 4 hours in a week

The class starts at 7:15 in the morning and ended at 12:00 noon. The afternoon classes will start at 12:30 pm and ended at 3:30 pm.
Material and Other Learning Sources
The students have their own textbook for Biology. That is the main material used by the teachers and students as reference for the subject. However, following the integration of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) inside the classroom, the classroom has equipped with projectors, which the teachers use to present their topic using PowerPoint presentations. Moreover, the teachers can borrow speakers inside the Administration Office if they plan to use videos as part of their instructional materials. They just need to log at the school’s logbook. The school also has WiFi but it is only exclusive for teachers for their researching for the subject that will teach. This is not open to students.
The library is very open for the students wanted to study. I searched more Educational Technologies inside the Library and I found a television and bunch of Educational Videos in forms of DVDs and CDs.
Measurement and Evaluation System
Each academic year is composed of 2 semesters. Each semester, the students have to take exams for Midterm and Finals. In this way, the students’ progress can be tracked by the teachers and give report at the end of every semester. However, quizzes are given from time to time by the teacher to assess whether the students learn every chapter of the book they have studied.
Curriculum
SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan follows the 2013 National Curriculum (Kurrikulum 2013). The 2013 curriculum ensures that: (1) The teacher teach the curriculum in the form of a learner-centered method which is done and developed in the form of learning activities at inside the class, school and even done within the community; and (2) facilitates meaningful learning experiences of students which caters the diversity of the learners.
In science, these characteristics should be manifested using classroom activities and laboratory works. However, in my 2 weeks stay in SMA, I only done classroom activities and simulations. I didn’t given a chance to do experimental works and activities inside the laboratory.
Moreover, I am surprised that the medium of Instruction of Science in Indonesia is in Bahasa Indonesia. I am used to learning and teaching Science in English. In Indonesia, scientific terms have their equivalent terms in their language. So, as a teacher I adjusted to their curriculum. I teach bilingually, both English and Bahasa Indonesia. I ensure that those scientific terms will be taught in Bahasa because that is what written in their textbooks! It was hard and challenging but experiencing this new technique and flexibility in teaching made the experience rewarding.
Teaching Plan (Of My Major)

This is syllabus of instruction given to me by Ibu Sumiyati that I used as a guide in teaching and making my own lesson plans. This syllabus is align and congruent with the Curriculum 2013. However, the syllabus is in Bahasa, so most of the time I ask my buddies to translate for me the syllabus. Sometimes, I use Google Translate.
The syllabus of instruction is my guide in creating my lesson objectives. Moreover, I used this for in planning for the activities and evaluation approaches I will do inside the classroom.
