LAST DAY OF BIPA CLASS

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

Tuesday, January 15

Today is the last day of our BIPA Class. We are really grateful that Universitas Islam Indonesia given us the chance to have four sessions of BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing) or Indonesian Language for Foreign Speaker. The class went for 2 days, which is composed of four sessions: one in the morning and another one in the afternoon. Ibu Amy and Ibu Ima were our teachers in this class. In the first two sessions, I’ve learned how to introduce myself in Bahasa, the common expressions, how to count, the currencies in Indonesia, and the days of the week. Moreover, the first two sessions also taught us how to order to restaurants, how to buy things and most especially how to bargain to sellers to save money! We learn this expression, “Boleh kurang?”, which means , “Can you make it less?”, which we all found useful when we go back to Malioboro street to buy souvenirs again.

Some expressions I learned in our BIPA class.

Fun groufie with one of our Bu (teacher), Ibu Amy

The third and fourth class focus on the things we can find on the school environment and the expressions we can use to praise our students. We learned the words and expressions, “Kepala sekolah” (school principal), “Lapangan sekolah” (School Field), “Perpustakaan” (Library), “Pak” (Sir) , “Ibu” (Ma’am), “Bagus!” (Very good!), “Benar!” (Correct!) , “Paham?” (Understand?) and many more which can be useful we are deployed to our respective practicum schools.

It's a wrap! Last session of BIPA class with Ibu Ima.

In totality, I am really thankful that we have this class. It is like, giving a soldier another sword before he goes to a war. Saya siap! (I am ready!)
